TOSHISHIRO  OBATA  Kaiso

4-Day Training Camp

The Dutch Shinkendo - Aikibuken Federation is proud to be sponsoring Obata Kaiso's third annual visit to the Netherlands!

Obata Kaiso's lifelong dedication to Japanese Budo and Bujutsu (traditional martial arts) has made him an unrivaled authority in the techniques, history and philosophy of the ancient Samurai. His school emphasizes very traditional and effective swordsmanship and Aikibujutsu, which with serious training, leads to both practical ability as well as a deep understanding of classical Japanese martial arts.

The authenticity and profundity of Obata Kaiso's teachings has inspired the allegiance of many teachers and students around the world. Currently 50 branch schools provide instruction in Shinkendo and Aikibuken (18 schools of Shinkendo exist in Europe). In an effort to support the growth and development of European Shinkendo and Aikibuken schools Obata Kaiso has been making yearly visits to Europe from his Hombu dojo (head dojo) in Los Angeles, California. This training camp is a once in a lifetime chance to meet and train with one of the truly great martial arts masters of our time.

From October 24-27 2002, Obata Kaiso will be offering a 4-day long training-camp in Amsterdam. The training will consist of Shinkendo, Aikibujutsu, Bojutsu and Tantojutsu.

For the sake of continuity it is preferred that participants make a commitment to attending the entire seminar, however if you are unable to attend all days then rates are also available for parts of the seminar. It is not required, but highly recommended that participants have some previous martial arts experience.

Accommodations:
Several different possibilities are available for participants who will be coming from outside of Amsterdam or from other countries. Many foreign students have requested inexpensive accommodations. Most out-of-towners will be staying at one of two budget hotels and/or apartment housing can be arranged assuming notice is given early enough to make preparations. Obata Kaiso will be staying at a rented apartment very close to the hotels

Accommodations at these hotels has been arranged for approximately € 45/per night, depending on the length of stay and the total number of reservations. These lodgings are not luxurious and they require that 2-4 people stay in one room (arrangements can be made for single rooms), however they are clean and rooms will only be shared with fellow seminar participants. If you need any help with accommodations or would like to see about arranging for an apartment € 60 per night) or another hotel in the area, please contact Hire Sensei by the 15th of September.

Additional Instructions:
All participants need a Dogi (Judo/Aikido uniform, preferably white). All Shinkendo participants need a Bokuto (wooden sword) and if possible a Hakama (traditional Japanese splint pants). All students participating in Bojutsu and/or Tantojutsu classes should bring a wooden training knife (or other non-sharp material) and a Bo (six-foot staff). If you do not have your own Bokuto, you may buy or borrow one at the seminar (Bokuto to borrow are on short supply).

During the daily lunch break students will have time to eat and rest; please bring your own lunch or come prepared to buy lunch at the sportcentrum cafeteria or a nearby restaurant.

*Members of the International Shinkendo Federation or Aikibujutsu Tanren Kenkyukai receive a 10% discount on seminar fees. Reduced fees are available to dedicated individuals with financial hardships.
